As a TEDx speaker on Manifesting Desires and the Founder of QAI India, his wealth of experience spans far beyond what can be summarized here.
Let’s delve into Navyug’s insights as he answers some of the questions I’ve prepared.
Question: Navyug, having known you for some time, I’ve always admired your sharpness and strong leadership. Could you shed light on the signs that led you to embark on the entrepreneurial journey
Answer: Looking back, it may seem like it was all meticulously planned, but much of it was spontaneous, with numerous course corrections along the way. The inception of QAI came as an epiphany during my return from the USA to India.
At that point, entrepreneurship wasn’t even on my radar, let alone being a “successful” entrepreneur (which remains a work in progress). I simply went with the flow, embracing a journey filled with fortuitous occurrences, the involvement of exceptional individuals, and the unveiling of countless opportunities.
Question: If you could travel back to the first year of your venture and converse with your former self for 15 minutes, what crucial lessons or mistakes would you share?
Answer: Reflecting on our journey, I’ve encountered numerous mistakes, but one pivotal aspect I wish I had approached differently was the absence of a co-founding team. Building and scaling a business becomes markedly easier when you have a group of like-minded individuals sharing ownership and motivation.
Question: What was the game-changer in your business life that has influenced your work ethic today? How did your approach shift before and after this revelation?
Answer: Early on, we made a strategic decision to position ourselves as “more expensive” than our competition, including Big 4 firms. This compelled us to reverse-engineer our processes, deliver superior quality, recruit highly skilled personnel, and attract clients who appreciated this value proposition.
This approach kept us agile and enabled us to secure demanding clients, further propelling our growth
Question: Managing people is integral to any business. What advice do you have on this front, especially considering your experience leading a sizable workforce?
Answer: At its core, effective management hinges on shared values. Without alignment in values, teamwork becomes untenable. Competence is equally crucial—every team member, regardless of seniority, must excel in their role.
Additionally, fostering genuine affinity among team members is vital. Once these prerequisites are met, the need for micromanagement diminishes significantly.
Question: Could you share a habit that has contributed significantly to your success?
Answer: Continuously challenging the status quo. I’m never content with complacency; instead, I relentlessly seek innovation and fresh ideas. However, this penchant for change also presents a significant weakness.
Question: Do you perceive any common shortcomings in the mindset of today’s entrepreneurs?
Answer: By and large, today’s entrepreneurs are exceptionally astute, well-funded, and confident, surpassing the standards of our generation. While individual weaknesses may exist, collectively, they represent a formidable cohort of young entrepreneurs poised for success.
Question: Have you encountered significant failures in your journey? How did you navigate these challenges?
Answer: Failures have been a daily occurrence, albeit none deemed catastrophic. Sometimes, I ponder whether enduring severe setbacks would have yielded more profound insights. I admire entrepreneurs who weathered extreme adversity, as it’s uncertain if I possess the same resilience.
Question: In business, assumptions abound. What’s the most effective method to validate assumptions and mitigate risks?
Answer: Continuous dialogue with customers and iterative experimentation are paramount. Only when individuals commit their time or resources do we gain genuine insights. Otherwise, assumptions are mere conjecture or ego-driven delusions.
Question: Our audience is curious about the non-business aspects of your life. How do you unwind outside of work, and what’s your philosophy on achieving work-life balance?
Answer: I’m deeply passionate about art, architecture, film, and photography. I spearhead a Film Club where enthusiasts gather to explore world cinema.
Question: Who were your most influential mentors and inspirations?
Answer: My father instilled invaluable principles in me, while Shah Rukh Khan’s approach to life resonates deeply. I endeavor to merge my father’s values with Shah Rukh Khan’s zeal and fervor.
Question: Lastly, what advice would you offer to our readers for self-development and ongoing learning to become better leaders, akin to your journey?
Answer: Self-development necessitates relentless introspection and honesty regarding one’s successes and failures. I urge individuals to challenge themselves continually without succumbing to despondency.
